House of Friendship

Our district is launching an exciting iPad App at the 52th District Conference. The Rotary House of Friendship iPad App is a unique mobile application that brings news and information on Rotary District 3450 to anyone with an iPad, anywhere in the world. This valuable and ongoing broadcasting platform will

(i) dispatches information about your club and

(ii) is an effective and efficient channel to show the services your club offers.

With this platform, your club will have a convenient and sleek way to present your club to others. The iPad App environment allows your club to present all information in any location through the widely accepted iPad user interface. For example, this iPad app can be used in meeting with any NGO partners and project partners to illustrate your club's information. I have also included a brochure (intended for advertisers) describing the details of this iPad app, in there you will find additional detailed information on this iPad app.

Each club can chose to include as much information as they desire. However, the information will need to be organized in a specific way defined by the iPad App. The information is to be formatted into individual entries of 500 words plus 3 pictures and the pricing for each 500 word & 3 pictures entry is HK$500. For example, your Club can prepare a 500 words plus 3 pictures on Club information, and for $500 your Club will be presented on this House of Friendship iPad App.

We encourage your club to take this opportunity to put your club's information on this Rotary House of Friendship iPad App. With your club's information published in this iPad app, your club will enjoy the benefit of being visible and accessible by anyone with an iPad anywhere, anytime in the world.

House of Friendship (HOF) & Call-for-Paper (CFP) going IT

HOF and CFP have joined forces and are going IT! Killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

All CFP and HOF submissions will be uploaded into a specially designed Apps by Apple App Store, to be downloaded and viewd by anyone, anywhere, anytime! Rotarians can refer this App to friends and perspective Rotarians who can view them on their iPhones and iPads.

HOF & CFP's departures from the Souvenir Book and Roll-up Banners are signs of our Time, a gesture of the much needed Environmental Consciousness; we save many trees as a result of unnecessary and excessive use of papers. Many meetings have gone paperless.

At the District Conference, the Joint HOF/CFP committees will set up 2 booths displaying the new App with 42" LCD TV for Rotarians to try the new App on site.

Examples of the information displayed include:

    • - Rotary District 3450 Information
    • - Club List
    • - District Projects
    • - Club Projects
    • - Clus Information
    • - Call for Paper Submissions & Awards
    • - District events and activities
    • - Club events and activities, etc

The cost is $500 per submission (for the design of the App and engagement of IT personnels to convert them into App). You can also advertise (Rotary, personal or business) on this APP at $3,000 per page.

We now need your full 500-words writeup of the CFP with maximum of 3 photos, or submissions you would normally do for the HOF. Please kindly send all submissions to PP Alice Tsang  or CP Eva Chiu . Submission deadline is March 22.

Your support is very much needed to make this innovative step in Rotary Information dissemination a success. PP Alice and CP Eva will be following up on this.

Thank you Presidents for your support. We look forward to receiving your club submissions.

YIR,

PP Vincent Lam

Chair – District Conference

Call for Papers ~ Extension of Deadline for abstract submission

Theme: Rotary Sharing in the Five Avenues of Services

Dear Presidents of Rotary Clubs/Rotaract Clubs/Interact Clubs and advisors of Rotary Adopt-A-School,

Thank you very much for your participation in the Call-for-Papers for our up-coming District Conference. Many of you have requested for an extension of the deadline for submission of abstract, I am most happy to extend the deadline to December 11, 2011.

Please send your submissions to PP Alice Tsang at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Here are some commonly asked questions:

  • Q:         The project that my club would like to write about won't be finished till later, what can I do?
  • Ans:
    • At this stage, all we need is an abstract, of less than 300 words, sort of a brief preview of your paper.
    • You will be informed of the acceptance of your abstract before 18 December 2011.
    • Deadline for the complete submission for the Call-for-Paper is February 8, 2011.
    • You can write on a project that will be completed by then. Would be great if you could provide us with lots of touching pictures.
    • If your project will not be completed by February, but you really like to write about it, you can write about the process and purpose of your project, too.

  • Q:         How many papers can our Club submit?
  • Ans:
    • DG David would like every President to submit a paper on a project that touches the President's heart, in line with this year's Rotary Theme "Reach within to Embrace Humanity". However, we welcome any other Rotarian or Rotaractor/ Interactor/ Rotary Adopt-A-School to submit papers on projects or topic that you are deemed meaningful and worth sharing with your fellow Clubs and Rotarians.

  • Q:         Is Call for Papers only for Rotary Clubs?
  • Ans:
    • No. We also extend our invitations to our Rotaract Clubs, Interact Clubs, and our New Generations such as Rotary Adopt-a-School.

  • Q:        Are all papers only on successful projects?
  • Ans:
    • No. We would like to share all of your experiences - running of service projects, club management, nurturing relationship with partnering organizations, Sister Clubs, other Rotary Clubs etc. Your club's unique Rotary Journey will benefit all of us as we learn and share your joy, happiness, fulfillment and at times, tears and heartaches.

Call for Papers

I am sure everyone remembers fondly the touching stories written by the participating Clubs at the last year's Call-for-Papers, where the clubs showcased their signature service projects and shared their experiences with fellow Rotarians. And I am sure that many members, including myself, regretted having missed the opportunity. Well, it is time to put your thinking cap on, take out your feather pen and start writing about all "The Good We Do" in the name of Rotary.

This year, we are taking the Call-for-Papers to an even higher level!

Firstly, we are combining the Conference's Souvenir Program with DG David's groundbreaking Year Book. This means all the winning Papers will be part of the Year Book.

Secondly, DG David requests that each participating Club President submits paper on a (signature) project that has touched his/her heart, in line with the theme of this Rotary Year – "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity".

So, please take a good look into your many wonderful and heart-warming projects, and write one under one of following categories:

  1. Club Services;
  2. Vocational Services;
  3. Community Services;
  4. International Services; and
  5. New Generations.

Please kindly note these important deadlines

  • Submission of abstracts: 30 November 2011
  • Notification of acceptance of abstracts: 8 December 2011
  • Submission of publication ready manuscripts: 8 February 2012
  • Notification of acceptance of papers: 15 March 2012

First thing to do: Please submit your abstract in less than 300 words to the DC Secretary General, PP Alice Tsang of the RC of Bayview Sunshine Hong Kong by e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) on or before November 30.

Yours in Rotary,

PP Alice Tsang

Secretary General of 52nd District Conference
Call-for-Papers Subcommittee Head
